OSTI Salutes Librarians During National Library Week -- April 9-14, 2012

April 9 - 14 is National Library Week, a time to honor the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.   First sponsored in 1958, it is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country.  It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use.

OSTI has a number of Library Tools that are provided as a free service to librarians and the library community to expand access to and use of DOE scientific research results:

OSTI believes that science progresses only if knowledge is shared.  And OSTI makes it possible for the public to find, at no cost to the user, research results and science information from the Manhattan Project to the present, download documents, view energy citations, discover patentsand e-prints, read about ongoing DOE accomplishments, search multimedia, science conference proceedings, scientific research data, and software, and connect to federated search of DOE collections, U.S., and globalscience portals, as well as customized resources.

Our collection of documents includes over 1.2 million legacy reports of research performed or sponsored by DOE and predecessor agencies, dating from the Manhattan Project; searchable access to over 290,000 DOE full-text reports , freely available online to DOE researchers and the public and over 2.4 million citations of documented DOE and related energy research results, publicly available online.  OSTI’s repository of information enhances librarians’ expert work, and we enjoy working with them to make their efforts and good works even better.  We invite you to join us as we thank librarians for making the world more informed.
